Product Information

Using the five E's of inquiry - engage, explore, elaborate, explain, and evaluate - this exploration enables students to apply what they learn about levers to the anatomy of the human body. Address aspects of the human lever systems important in movement, including the interaction of muscles, tendons and bones. The experiment provides students with a scientific basis for understanding how levers are applied to the human body. Includes a teacher's guide aligned with National Science Standards. Developed by Dr. Herb Janssen and Cathy Box, of Texas Tech University, in conjunction with the Howard Hughes Institute. Grades 9-12. Lever size: 34 x 30cm. Requires a rod stand, not included.

This lab was great for demonstrating levers in human systems, however the actual measurement portion of the lab was a bit confusing; especially the second class lever system. A photograph of an actual set-up might make things easier. In fact, we found that the pictures in the online description of the lab were best for describing the set-ups for this lab.
