Your students become magnetic detectives with this hands-on building kit.

The kit includes materials to build two reed switch controlled magnetic sensors — one that lights and one that buzzes. After assembling the sensors, students use them to detect magnetic fields around magnets, solenoids, coils and other common items. These activities, developed by Joe Gilbert, reinforce understanding of magnetism as well as technical skills including following directions, reading schematics, understanding simple electronics and circuitry, problem solving and report writing.

Includes two sensors and instructions. Requires 9V batteries, magnets and magnetic devices, not included.

Grades 8–12.
