Product Information

How does a hot air balloon stay afloat? Let your students find out for themselves as they create their own hot air balloon model using simple, everyday items. This fun and educational lab is the brainchild of California teacher, Art Morrill.

Once students complete the balloons, which are made with panels of tissue paper, they can use a stove pipe and burner to provide the heat necessary for the balloon rise. Have contests to see whose balloon stays afloat the longest.

Students practice measuring ambient (exterior) and interior air temperature, determining mass and calculation of lift. Includes detailed instructions for 10 student groups. Grades 7–12.
