Make some music and learn about acoustics with this fun kit developed by Griff Jones. The kit includes several pipes of varying lengths, for explorations of pipe length and pitch. One suggested demonstration has students placing a pipe in water and moving it up and down while blowing in it, to illustrate the workings of a trombone. Another demonstration gives each student a certain pitched pipe; you then conduct your “orchestra” in a tune (we even provide the song sheets — and no musical talent is necessary!) A third uses music box movements and soundboards to explore the concept of resonance. Includes instructions and materials for 15 student groups. Grades 6–8.
