This hands-on teacher demonstration and student lab is a simple yet effective tool for illulstrating the Law of Refraction. After the teacher demonstrates the bead bowl with a laser pointer, available separately, students perform the experiment by viewing the bead in the bowl, first through air and then through water. Students can easily see that as the light enters a more dense medium, it moves toward the normal. Developed by science teacher Richard Bobrick. Includes materials for 15 student groups, a student guide as well as a teacher’s guide. Some assembly is required. Grades 8–10.
